Health and absences
What if my child is ill?
If your child is unwell, please keep them at home and let us know as soon as you can. These are the key illness guidelines families usually need most.
-
Sickness and diarrhoea: children should stay off nursery for 48 hours after their last episode.
-
Chickenpox: your child can return once the spots have fully scabbed over.
-
Conjunctivitis: children are usually allowed to attend. Please bring prescribed eye drops if needed.
-
Fever: a temperature above 37.8 means your child will need to go home and should stay off for 24 hours after a fever.
-
Calpol or similar medication: children cannot attend for 24 hours after having it.

Frequently asked questions
Here are some additional questions families often ask. If you cannot find what you need, please contact the nursery and our team will be happy to help.
Will I still be charged if we take a planned holiday?
Yes. Nursery fees remain payable during planned holidays.
Your child’s place, staffing and resources are reserved whether they attend or not, so fees continue during holiday absences.
Can my child bring a packed lunch?
In most cases children take part in the meals provided by the nursery. We find it is important for children to feel included and share the same mealtime experience as their friends.
Our kitchen provides options for allergies, intolerances and dietary requirements. However, we understand that some children may be particular eaters or require a different type of diet, and we are happy to discuss this with you on a case by case basis.
Can I change my child’s days or hours after they have joined?
Yes. If you would like to change your child’s days or hours, please speak with the nursery admin team.
They will check availability and do their best to accommodate your request.
You can contact them by phone on (insert number) or by email at (insert email).
Can someone else collect my child from nursery?
Yes, but they must be listed as an authorised collector on your child’s record.
If someone new will be collecting your child, please inform the nursery in advance so staff are aware. We may ask for identification to ensure your child is collected safely.
What should I do if I am running late for collection?
Please contact the nursery as soon as possible if you expect to be late collecting your child.
This allows our team to make sure your child is supervised and reassured while they wait. If lateness becomes regular, the nursery may need to review arrangements to ensure staffing and ratios can be maintained safely.
Do I need to give notice if my child leaves the nursery?
We kindly ask families to give at least one week’s notice if their child will be leaving the nursery permanently.
There is no fee for leaving, and your deposit will be returned once your child has finished their time with us.
What happens if my child becomes very upset at nursery?
It is completely normal for some children to feel upset when settling into a new environment.
Our staff will comfort and reassure your child, offering support and familiar routines to help them feel safe and secure. Most children settle quickly once they begin playing and engaging with activities.
If your child continues to feel unsettled, we will always keep you informed and work with you to help them feel comfortable.
What happens if my child injures themselves at nursery?
If a child has a minor accident, a trained member of staff will provide first aid straight away and record the incident.
You will be informed when you collect your child and asked to sign the accident record.
If a more serious injury occurs, we will contact you immediately and follow our safeguarding and first aid procedures.
